Course Overview - 2 DAY COURSE

DAY 1 - The KT1 course introduces practitioners to the Kinesio Taping Method®.
During this 8 hour class, the instructor will discuss the fundamental concepts of the Kinesio Taping Method® and the unique properties of Kinesio Tex® Tape. This is followed by a workshop where attendees will have time to practice screening and muscle testing and muscle applications for both the upper and lower body using Kinesio Tex Tape. Upon completion of this course, attendees will be able to discuss and apply the Kinesio Taping Method® to relax overused muscles, stimulate weak muscles, and decrease pain and swelling.

DAY 2 - The KT2 course introduces practitioners to advanced applications using the Kinesio Taping Method®.
The KT2 course builds on material covered in KT1. During this 8 hour class, the instructor will introduce the six Corrective Techniques (Mechanical, Functional, Space, Fascia, Ligament/Tendon, and Lymphatic) and discuss their application in a variety of clinical conditions. This includes Kinesio Taping® for orthopedic & neurological conditions.

This course is suitable for physiotherapists, sport therapists, osteopaths, chiropractors, occupational therapists & lymphoedema therapists. Students in these fields are also welcome to participate on KT1 & KT2 courses.

Attendees must take courses in order (KT1 & KT2 before KT3)
ONLY KTA-APPROVED courses are considered for obtaining accreditation as a Certified Kinesio Taping® Practitioner (CKTP). This is achieved after completion of KT3.

Biography

Lee Clarke, CKTI, M.C.S.P, S.R.P. BSc.


Lee Clarke

Lee is a Chartered Physiotherapist qualifying in 1997 from the University of Teesside. He worked in the NHS for 2 years whilst training part time, graduating as a chartered Animal Physiotherapist in 1999. He then completed a 2 year postgraduate course in manual therapy/sports at Glasgow University in 2001. Lee has completed numerous other courses in many different techniques such as Acupuncture, Laser Therapy, Neurology and Osteopathic Techniques.

Lee now continues to combine Human and Equine work, dividing time equally between "Darlington FC Physiotherapy and Sport Injury clinic", and "The Equine Physiotherapy Clinic" which specialises in rehabilitating horses after serious injury. Lee is also the Official Team Physiotherapist for the British Equestrian Endurance team responsible for treating the riders and horses.

KT1 FUNDAMENTALS OF Kinesio Taping® (Total hours: 8)

Introduction to Kinesio Taping® Concepts (2 hrs)
  • History of Kinesio Taping technique.
  • Introduction to Kinesio Taping® Concepts (2 hrs)
  • Benefits and limitations of Kinesio Taping.
  • Physical characteristics and qualities of Kinesio-Tex Tape.
  • Application of tape to learn proper 'feel' and how to remove tape from backing.
  • Examine difference between longitudinal and cross-wise stretching of the tape.
  • Stretch properties of Kinesio Tape.
  • Basic application techniques of how tape is cut and applied, preparation of body part to be taped and maintenance of tape once it is applied.
