Course Overview - 2 DAY COURSE

DAY 1 - The KT1 course introduces practitioners to the Kinesio Taping Method®.
During this 8 hour class, the instructor will discuss the fundamental concepts of the Kinesio Taping Method® and the unique properties of Kinesio Tex® Tape. This is followed by a workshop where attendees will have time to practice screening and muscle testing and muscle applications for both the upper and lower body using Kinesio Tex Tape. Upon completion of this course, attendees will be able to discuss and apply the Kinesio Taping Method® to relax overused muscles, stimulate weak muscles, and decrease pain and swelling.

DAY 2 - The KT2 course introduces practitioners to advanced applications using the Kinesio Taping Method®.
The KT2 course builds on material covered in KT1. During this 8 hour class, the instructor will introduce the six Corrective Techniques (Mechanical, Functional, Space, Fascia, Ligament/Tendon, and Lymphatic) and discuss their application in a variety of clinical conditions. This includes Kinesio Taping® for orthopedic & neurological conditions.

This course is suitable for physiotherapists, sport therapists, osteopaths, chiropractors, occupational therapists & lymphoedema therapists. Students in these fields are also welcome to participate on KT1 & KT2 courses.

Attendees must take courses in order (KT1 & KT2 before KT3)
ONLY KTA-APPROVED courses are considered for obtaining accreditation as a Certified Kinesio Taping® Practitioner (CKTP). This is achieved after completion of KT3.

Penny Macutkiewicz MSc Advanced Clinical Practice (Sports Physiotherapy), Bsc (Hons) Physiotherapy MCSP. Elite Sports Physiotherapist, Manager of the Performance Clinic.


Penny Macutkiewicz

Penny has worked in elite sport since 2002 and works with UK Athletics, British Swimming, British Rowing and the English Institute of Sport. Penny regularly travels the world to support the Great Britain Team and has worked at the Summer and Winter Paralympics (Beijing and Turin), the European Youth Olympic Festival (Finland) the World University Games, World Athletics Championships, World Swimming Championships, Grand Prix events and European Championships. Penny has also worked on the World Grand Prix Circuit for World Superbikes and was Lead physiotherapist for Team GB Taekwondo. She is a Headquarters physiotherapist for the 2012 Paralympic Games.

KT1 FUNDAMENTALS OF Kinesio Taping® (Total hours: 8)

Introduction to Kinesio Taping® Concepts (2 hrs)
  • History of Kinesio Taping technique.
  • Introduction to Kinesio Taping® Concepts (2 hrs)
  • Benefits and limitations of Kinesio Taping.
  • Physical characteristics and qualities of Kinesio-Tex Tape.
  • Application of tape to learn proper 'feel' and how to remove tape from backing.
  • Examine difference between longitudinal and cross-wise stretching of the tape.
  • Stretch properties of Kinesio Tape.
  • Basic application techniques of how tape is cut and applied, preparation of body part to be taped and maintenance of tape once it is applied.
